Sofitel Barcelona Skipper has been awarded a Michelin Key in the 2026 edition of the Michelin Guide, one of the most prestigious accolades in the international hotel industry. Established in 2014, the Michelin Key is the distinction the guide bestows upon hotels that offer exceptionally outstanding experiences, similar to the Michelin Stars awarded to restaurants.
The exclusivity of this distinction is reflected in its figures: only 122 hotels in all of Spain currently hold a Michelin Key, while in Barcelona, 18 establishments are included in this selection. Worldwide, the guide awards Keys to 2,832 hotels out of a selection of more than 9,400 establishments.
Michelin inspectors conduct their evaluations anonymously and assess aspects such as architecture and design, the personality of the establishment, the quality of its services and those elements that make a stay special, exceptional or unique.
Reopened in 2022 after a complete transformation, Sofitel Barcelona Skipper brings French luxury to Barcelona's seafront, combining Sofitel's savoir-faire with references to the Mediterranean character and identity of the city.
The hotel has 225 rooms and a maritime-inspired aesthetic in which blue and white tones predominate, accompanied by details inspired by Gaudí that, as highlighted by the Michelin Guide, establish a dialogue between Paris and Catalonia.
Their proposal is completed with two swimming pools: one on the ground floor, geared towards a family atmosphere, and another on the rooftop, with panoramic views of the Mediterranean and DJ sessions for much of the afternoon.
The Tendiez restaurant combines classic Spanish cuisine with French-inspired techniques and uses local ingredients, reflecting Sofitel's philosophy of connecting its French heritage with the identity of each destination.
Located in La Barceloneta, Sofitel Barcelona Skipper is just a three-minute walk from Somorrostro Beach and combines its Mediterranean-front location with proximity to the city center.
The Michelin Guide itself highlights the uniqueness of this location, as hotels facing the sea and so close to the center of Barcelona are still uncommon.
Sofitel Barcelona Skipper joins the 18 Barcelona hotels currently distinguished with Michelin Keys. In the 2026 edition, the guide has also added Hotel Neri Relais & Châteaux, METT Barcelona, and Miramar Barcelona to this selection. The Mandarin Oriental Barcelona has two Keys, while the other recognized establishments have one.
With this distinction, Sofitel Barcelona Skipper joins the select group of hotels recognized by Michelin and reinforces its position in Barcelona with a proposal that combines French savoir-faire, the Mediterranean character of the city and a privileged location facing the sea.
