Holland America Line opens a new chapter for the Ocean Bar aboard the Oosterdam. Inspired by the glamour of the golden age of ocean travel, the redesigned space brings together live entertainment, cocktails, and conversation in a sophisticated new setting, featuring a new stage, refreshed lounge areas, and a redesigned layout to connect passengers more closely with the performances.
The transformation incorporates a new stage designed to offer a broader program, from local soloists and pianists to performances by Vivace Strings and nightly cabaret shows. A redesigned bar, strategically relocated to create a stronger connection with the performances, along with refreshed seating and inviting lounge areas, creates an atmosphere equally suitable for enjoying a signature cocktail, a late-night performance, or conversation long after the music has finished.
“With the new Ocean Bar, we wanted to draw inspiration from the qualities that have made ocean travel so enduring, from its sense of elegance and exclusivity to the connections forged along the way,” said Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of Holland America Line’s Food, Beverage and Accommodation division. “Inspired by our maritime heritage, including design details reminiscent of the Rotterdam V, this refurbished space creates an environment where passengers can gather for cocktails, enjoy live music, and immerse themselves in the refined elegance that has always been part of the Holland America experience.”.
To bring this vision to life, the revamped Ocean Bar combines a refined aesthetic with enhancements designed to strengthen the connection between passengers, entertainment, and the surrounding space. The redesigned bar serves as the focal point of the space, featuring updated furnishings upholstered in fabrics made from recycled materials, reflecting a deliberate balance of craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability.
The redesigned Ocean Bar blends Art Deco elegance with subtle nautical influences to create a warm and sophisticated space. Custom-designed furnishings, developed specifically for the space, incorporate details inspired by vintage travel trunks and luggage, including leather elements that evoke the romance of classic cruises.
The redesign also reflects Holland America Line's commitment to responsible management. Existing lounge furniture that still has years of life remaining will be refurbished and reupholstered with fabrics made from recycled materials, giving new life to cherished pieces while creating a balance between preservation and renewal. Combined with redesigned seating areas and a more open layout, the result is a space that feels both familiar and new.
The Pinnacle experience is coming to more ships
As the largest fleet upgrade in the company's 153-year history, Holland America Evolution will revitalize all six Vista and Signature-class ships, beginning with the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam. The enhancements combine new offerings with passenger-favorite amenities, inspired by Holland America Line's Pinnacle-class ships. Designed based on passenger feedback, Evolution blends refreshed public areas, expanded spaces, and an enhanced onboard offering with the attentive service, destination-enriched voyages, and ideally sized ships that define Holland America Line. The company will invest more than $500 million in the six ships, including upgrades to onboard services and additional staterooms and suites that will provide travelers with more choices.
Bookings are now open for cruises on the Oosterdam and Zuiderdam following their refurbishments, giving passengers the chance to experience firsthand the updated cabins, improved spaces, and expanded areas.
