Norwegian Cruise Line Expands Its European Operations in 2028 with New Ports of Call in Morocco

Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled its summer 2028 itinerary, which includes more than 450 cruises ranging from three to 14 days aboard 20 ships. The company will offer itineraries from 25 home ports with stops at nearly 150 destinations in 51 countries.

Europe will feature prominently in this itinerary, with cruises through the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the British Isles, the Baltic, and the Atlantic. One of the main new features will be the inclusion of Morocco in the Norwegian Jewel’s itinerary, as the ship will make its first-ever stops in Casablanca and Agadir.

The Norwegian Jewel Makes Its Debut in Morocco

The main new offering for the European market will be a new 12-day round-trip cruise to Barcelona aboard the Norwegian Jewel. The itinerary will combine the Canary Islands with North Africa and will include the ship’s first stops in Casablanca and Agadir.

The itinerary will also include, for the first time for the NCL Jewel, stops in Arrecife, Lanzarote, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, making it a particularly appealing option for those looking to combine the Canary Islands, Morocco, and the western Mediterranean on a single cruise.

The Jewel will also expand its presence in Europe with an 11-day repositioning cruise between Barcelona and Southampton in May 2028, while in September it will offer a new nine-day round-trip itinerary departing from Southampton.

The ship will also have a significant presence in Northern Europe and the Baltic, offering seven-, nine-, and ten-day cruises between Southampton, Copenhagen, and Helsinki, as well as five itineraries departing from and returning to Copenhagen with stops in Tallinn, Riga, and Klaipėda.

More ways to explore Europe

NCL's European fleet for the summer of 2028 features a wide variety of itineraries.

The Norwegian Getaway will offer 10- and 11-day cruises between Southampton and Reykjavík during the midnight sun season, with stops in Norway, Iceland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. The itinerary also includes NCL’s first-ever stops in Grundarfjörður, Iceland, and Vik, Norway.

In the Mediterranean, the Norwegian Dawn will make its first-ever visits to Zadar, Croatia, and Cagliari, Sardinia, as part of a series of 10- and 11-day cruises with stops in Lisbon, Barcelona, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Ravenna (Venice).

For its part, the Norwegian Viva will offer nine-, ten-, and 12-day itineraries between Rome, Venice, Barcelona, and Istanbul, while the Norwegian Pearl will continue its seven-day cruises around the Greek islands between Ravenna and Athens.

The Norwegian Epic will offer nine- to 12-day itineraries departing from and returning to Rome, while the Norwegian Star will once again cruise the British Isles and Northern Europe, with stops in Belfast, Edinburgh, and Invergordon.

European itineraries with more time at each destination

Overall, NCL has designed a summer season that aims to reduce time at sea and increase the time spent at port. According to the company, nearly 80% of the time on its cruises will be spent in port, with 175 overnight stops or late departures at 53 destinations. These include Santorini and Livorno, as well as Juneau in Alaska.

The 2028 itinerary thus confirms the importance Norwegian Cruise Line continues to place on Europe, while adding new destinations to its offerings.
