Carnival Cruise Line celebrated a major milestone today with the traditional steel-cutting ceremony for its new ship, the Carnival Destiny, which will enter service in the summer of 2029 as the first of three ships in its new generation, officially named the Ace Class. The event, held at the Fincantieri shipyard, also served to reveal the ship’s name and showcase a 3D hologram that offered a first glimpse into the future of Carnival cruises.
The new Carnival Destiny It will introduce a completely different way of experiencing the ocean from aboard the ship, becoming the most open-to-the-sea mega-ship ever built by the company. It will feature an unprecedented number of staterooms with balconies and ocean views, a deck-style lanai completely redesigned and more than 1.8 hectares of glass surfaces, including massive glass walls spanning several decks that will expand the panoramic views throughout the ship. The goal is for passengers to be able to enjoy the ocean from many more areas on board and maintain a constant visual connection with the sea.
The ship will also mark a significant evolution in the onboard experience. More than 70% of its spaces and attractions will be entirely new concepts for Carnival, featuring revamped dining options, next-generation bars and lounges, immersive entertainment, and spacious outdoor areas designed to encourage greater interaction among guests.
“Carnival Destiny continues a legacy that has already transformed cruising once and reimagines what guests can experience at sea,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “With this ship, we’re once again elevating the guest experience, creating a ship that feels more spacious, more connected to the ocean, and, ultimately, more fun.”
The Carnival Destiny will sail to destinations included in the Paradise Collection by Carnival, the cruise industry’s largest portfolio of exclusive destinations in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Mexico. The company will announce more details about its onboard facilities and experiences throughout this year, while the ship’s delivery is scheduled for the summer of 2029. In addition, two more Ace-class ships are already planned for 2031 and 2033.
