From its inception, Oceania Cruises has been a choice for travelers who understand luxury as a balanced combination of fine dining, carefully selected destinations, and a refined onboard experience. With mid-sized ships and highly personalized service, the company has cultivated a distinctive style that appeals to lovers of cultural travel and the finer things in life.
Oceania Cruises is now taking a decisive step into the future with the unveiling of the Oceania Sonata, the first of the new Sonata-class ships, scheduled to debut in August 2027. This new vessel not only represents an evolution in design and concept, but also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the cruise line.
An inaugural season designed to explore
Oceania Sonata's inaugural season will feature 22 itineraries between August 2027 and April 2028, with voyages ranging from 7 to 16 days and visiting more than 90 destinations in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America. Bookings officially opened on January 28, 2026, and itineraries are now available online.
With a capacity for 1,390 passengers and a crew of 855 professionals, Oceania Sonata has been designed to offer an intimate, spacious, and deeply connected experience. Its itinerary combines overnight stays in port, extended port calls, and carefully curated excursions to uncover the cultural, historical, and culinary essence of each destination.
“Oceania Sonata’s inaugural season is defined by the cultural and geographic diversity of the destinations she visits,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “As the first ship in the Sonata class, she sets the tone for our itineraries, exceptional onboard comfort, and the leisurely freedom to explore the world that defines the brand’s ongoing evolution.”.
From the classical Mediterranean to the tropics
The maiden voyage will set sail on August 7, 2027, from Rome (Civitavecchia) on a 14-day itinerary to Trieste, visiting Mediterranean gems such as Catania, Valletta, Katakolon, Bar, and Zadar. Throughout its European season, the Oceania Sonata will visit major capitals like Barcelona, Athens, and Lisbon, combined with lesser-known ports such as Paros, Koper, Sarandë, and Palamós—a hallmark of the cruise line.
Overnight stopovers will allow travelers to delve deeper into iconic destinations such as Istanbul, Livorno, or Bordeaux, enjoying their nightlife, cuisine, and heritage without the usual limitations of port hours.
After its Mediterranean leg, the ship will cross the Atlantic to Miami, where its tropical season will begin. The classic Caribbean experience is combined with less-traveled destinations in Latin America, such as Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa in Mexico and Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala, as well as a spectacular daytime transit through the Panama Canal, a must-do for any traveler.
