Under the banner “Musical Illuminations of the South,” the festival will bring together renowned artists such as Avi Avital, Francesca Di Sauro, Alessio Arduini, Christian-Pierre La Marca, Quatuor Arod, Duo Jatekok, Tjasha Gafner, and Daniel Heide. Thanks to its small size, EUROPA will also travel along less common river routes, such as the Guadalquivir to Seville and the Gironde to Bordeaux.
The cruise thus combines the lightheartedness of the south with the cultural diversity of Europe. Two more cruises will follow in July and August 2026, where the finest chamber music will set the rhythm on board: pianist Ragna Schirmer will share the stage with the Schumann Quartet, and the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben will hold its chamber music festival featuring young classical music talents.
When EUROPA sets sail in Málaga at the end of May 2026, it will embark on a journey that unites music and culture in a very special way. Sailing along the Iberian coast and through the river landscapes of Portugal and France, the Ocean Sun Festival will construct a musical narrative of Southern Europe, inspired by light, movement, and the encounter between cultures.
The inaugural concert will take place at the historic Hacienda El Vizir, near Seville, where Mediterranean architecture meets chamber music beneath the arches of this 18th-century estate. Mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital and his ensemble “Avi Avital – Between Worlds” will perform works by Albéniz and Falla, accompanied by mezzo-soprano Francesca Di Sauro and baritone Alessio Arduini. Their repertoire ranges from opera to the most refined instrumental virtuosity.
The program will continue aboard the EUROPA with top-level performances: French cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca will contribute his characteristic lyrical style; pianist Daniel Heide will offer exquisite chamber music; the multi-award-winning Quatuor Arod will establish musical dialogues between classical and contemporary; Duo Jatekok will explore new soundscapes at the piano; and the young harpist Tjasha Gafner will add a contemporary lightness to the ensemble.
