Mystic Cruises has reached an agreement with China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry Corporation for the construction of a new cruise ship, which also includes an option for up to three additional vessels. The contract was signed last week in China at an official ceremony attended by Mario Ferreira, president of Mystic Cruises, and Mei Zhonghua, vice president of China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry and managing director of China Merchants Cruise Manufacturing Company.
The deal confirms the discussions Ferreira had previously mentioned regarding the possibility of building new ships in Chinese shipyards. While no technical details or delivery dates have been provided, the company has indicated that the vessels will be equipped with trifuel propulsion systems, in line with a strategy focused on greater energy flexibility.
Mystic Cruises owns the Atlas Cruises and Nicko Cruises brands and has a long and established track record in the expedition and luxury cruise segment. In recent years, the group has developed a series of ships at the West Sea shipyard in Portugal. The most recent, Star Seeker, is scheduled for delivery to Windstar Cruises in the coming days, reinforcing Mystic's presence as a builder and operator specializing in this type of vessel.
