Royal Caribbean 's fourth Icon Class ship has officially begun physical construction, and the milestone was marked with a keel-laying ceremony. The event took place at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where the ship's first block was lifted and placed on a bed of newly minted coins.
The new ship is officially underway and will continue to take shape over the next two years, for its debut in 2027. At the celebration, the first building block was laid in the dry dock, where the ship's construction will take place. Teams from Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku sealed the agreement, and good luck, by placing a layer of newly minted coins before a massive steel block, known as the keel, was lifted and set in place.
