Viking celebrated today that its newest ocean-going ship, the Viking Mira, has touched the water for the first time, marking a significant milestone in its construction. Classified as a small ship, like all Viking ocean-going vessels, the Viking Mira has a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, with 499 cabins that can accommodate 998 guests. Its debut is scheduled for spring 2026, and it will spend its inaugural season sailing itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
“We believe that together with Fincantieri we have created the most elegant fleet of small ocean-going ships in the world—and the launch of Viking Mira marks another important milestone as we continue to expand our fleet,” said Torstein Hagen, president and CEO of Viking. “As we prepare to welcome her in 2026, we are proud to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”.
The traditional launching ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona and is significant as it marks the ship's transition to the final stage of construction. The Viking Mira's launch began on July 31 at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time, when the ceremonial cord was cut, allowing water to flow into the dry dock where the ship was being built. Following a two-day process to float the ship, it will be moved to a nearby outfitting dock to complete construction and interior outfitting.
