Viking Vesta, the second in a new series of cruise ships being built by Fincantieri for Viking, was delivered today at the Ancona shipyard. The ceremony was attended by Torstein Hagen, President and CEO of Viking, and Luigi Matarazzo, Managing Director of Fincantieri's Merchant Ship Division.
The vessel belongs to the small cruise ship segment. With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, the Viking Vesta is equipped with 499 cabins and can accommodate 998 passengers.
This ship is the fourteenth that Fincantieri has delivered to Viking, including the two expedition vessels built by its Norwegian subsidiary, Vard.
Taking into account the ships ordered to date, as well as the contracts and option agreements signed in recent months —the formalization of which is subject to obtaining financing, as is customary in the industry— the solid and long-lasting relationship between Fincantieri and Viking covers 28 vessels.
In addition, Fincantieri and Viking recently announced the world's first cruise ship to be powered by hydrogen stored on board, both for propulsion and for internal electricity generation: the Viking Libra, which is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
This innovative vessel is also currently under construction at the Ancona shipyard and will be able to navigate and operate with zero emissions, allowing it to access even the most environmentally sensitive areas. Its sister ship, the Viking Astrea —also under construction at the same shipyard and scheduled for delivery in 2027—will incorporate the same pioneering hydrogen-based technology.
All Viking boats are built to the latest navigation and safety standards. They are equipped with high-efficiency engines and systems that minimize exhaust emissions, meeting the most stringent environmental standards.
