The Port Authority of Seville (APS) is investing in modernization work on the Muelle de las Delicias (Delicias Wharf) to extend the lifespan of this century-old infrastructure by another 50 years. With a tender value of €3.3 million, including VAT, the work includes adapting and reinforcing the wharf to facilitate the berthing not only of cruise ships, but also of yachts and megayachts, a sector of the business promoted by the Port Authority.
The Muelle de las Delicias (Delicias Wharf) is a key infrastructure element at the port-city interface, where the cruise terminal, offering direct docking in the heart of the city, the Seville Aquarium, restaurants, green spaces, and an underground parking garage converge. Due to the passage of time and the environmental exposure of the reinforced concrete, it is necessary to upgrade part of this infrastructure.
The project will include repairing corrosion damage to slabs and beams located on the quayside; protecting the concrete surfaces by painting them; and repairing joints. The work is expected to take 10 months, during which time the pier will remain operational. Therefore, the work schedule will be coordinated with cruise ship calls and the cultural, leisure, and gastronomic offerings of the Muelle de las Delicias (Delicias Wharf).
The deadline for submitting bids is July 10, 2025.
Currently, the Port Authority of Seville is also undertaking improvements to the access points, green spaces, and lighting of the Muelle de las Delicias (Delicias Wharf) with the aim of increasing its appeal and use by the public. Among other measures, a wooden walkway has been installed among the trees and vegetation of Avenida Santiago Montoto, providing new shaded areas for pedestrians.
It is also reinforcing the pedestrian walkway of the dock with 8 pergolas, also made of wood, located parallel to the fence and has provided a boardwalk to facilitate the southern access, located next to the Seville Aquarium.
Regarding the vegetation, it has reinforced the green areas with native species provided by the Provincial Council of Seville, including shrub species such as lavender, teucrium, plumbago and rosemary.
Today, the Delicias dock boasts a cruise terminal built from 46 recycled High Cube shipping containers; it also features underground parking, restaurants, landscaped areas, and an aquarium. Furthermore, its strategic location near the city center makes it an ideal venue for cultural, sporting, and leisure activities, among other events of interest to the public.
