AmaWaterways has launched a new optional land package in Alexandria, Egypt, designed to complement its popular Secrets of Egypt & the Nile itinerary. Available from September 2025, this three-night post-cruise extension offers guests an immersive experience in the rich cultural and historical heritage of Alexandria, the legendary coastal city where Cleopatra once reigned.
“With the growing interest in traveling to Egypt, we wanted to give our guests the opportunity to discover even more of this dream destination,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and senior brand ambassador for AmaWaterways.
The Alexandria land package adds two nights in Alexandria and one night in Cairo, following the cruise and land tour included in the 11-night Secrets of Egypt & the Nile. Travelers will stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in Alexandria and explore the city's most iconic sites, including Roman ruins, ancient catacombs, the beautifully restored Citadel of Qaitbay (a 15th-century fortress overlooking the Mediterranean), and a visit to Wadi El Natrun, one of Egypt's holiest Coptic pilgrimage destinations. The package concludes with an overnight stay at the Le Méridien Cairo Airport Hotel for added comfort before international departure.
All AmaWaterways land packages include daily breakfast at the hotel, excursions and cultural visits, convenient transfers and luggage handling between the hotel and the river cruise, plus the assistance of an AmaWaterways Cruise Manager throughout the river and land experience.
This new experience enhances the Secrets of Egypt & the Nile, which includes a 7-night river cruise departing from and returning to Luxor aboard either the AmaLilia or the AmaDahlia, along with a 4-night stay in Cairo (three nights before the cruise and one night after). Guests sail the legendary Nile in complete comfort, discovering ancient sites such as Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings, guided by expert Egyptologists, and enjoying luxurious accommodations such as The St. Regis Cairo or The Ritz-Carlton Cairo, depending on the ship.
The optional extension to Alexandria can be added to departures between September and June, aligning with the current cruise season.
