The ship of the new Spanish company Alma Cruceros has been detained today under embargo at the request of its general agent and consignee, Lantimar Group.
Alma Cruises began operations on April 18th in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with an 8-day itinerary to Málaga. After that initial voyage, it was only able to maintain its travel schedule for two more weeks.
On May 9th, the shipping company informed travel agents with clients scheduled to depart on May 11th that the trip was canceled and that they would provide further updates. The ship never sailed again and today was impounded in the port of Málaga by the relevant authorities, meaning the vessel is now immobilized with all crew members on board awaiting further developments.
The shipping company has not yet made any official statement.
Alma Cruises chartered the Ocean Victory from the shipowner SunStone to operate Mediterranean cruises for 6 months each year from April to October, and the other 6 months the ship would operate in Antarctica for the operator Albatros Expedition.
