Witnessing a total solar eclipse is a special experience, but seeing it from the sea can be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. This summer, the luxury cruise line Oceania Cruises is offering five exclusive itineraries to observe the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, from prime locations at sea, in an exclusive and distraction-free environment. With this initiative, Oceania positions itself as the company with the largest offering of cruises specifically designed to experience this astronomical phenomenon on the high seas, surpassing any other cruise line worldwide.
The voyages, which will travel routes around the coasts of Ireland, Iceland, Portugal and the United Kingdom, have been carefully planned so that passengers can observe the eclipse in optimal conditions, far from light pollution and with clear views of the sky.
The star attraction will be visible from five of the company's flagship vessels: the Oceania Marina, which will be sailing within the 100% total, and the Oceania Insignia, Oceania Sirena and two routes of the Oceania Vista, which will be in areas with more than 90% total visibility.
Astronomical journeys with a gourmet touch
Each cruise not only offers an unbeatable location for viewing the eclipse, but also incorporates a comprehensive experience with themed activities, scientific presentations, and stellar culinary offerings. On the day of the eclipse, the ships will host deck parties with meals specially designed for the occasion, such as eclipse-shaped cookies, crescent-shaped shrimp empanadas, passion fruit macarons, and star-shaped sandwiches. All of this while maintaining Oceania Cruises' signature culinary approach, a fundamental pillar of its philosophy. With cuisine inspired by legendary chef Jacques Pépin and each dish carefully prepared to order, allowing for customization of ingredients and portions, as well as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and low-sodium menus, without sacrificing flavor or presentation.
In addition, the five itineraries will be enriched by onboard educational programs, with the participation of experts such as astronomer Dennis Mammana, the “Wizard of the Stars” Dr. Jerry Krassner , and NASA Solar System Ambassador Ted Blank, who will offer talks and guide the eclipse viewing:
- The Oceania Marina will depart from Copenhagen on July 30, 2026, bound for Reykjavik. With stops at unconventional ports such as Invergordon and Akureyri, this 14-day voyage will offer the opportunity to observe the eclipse from Grundarfjordur, Iceland, within the path of totality.
- The Oceania Insignia will depart from Reykjavik on August 3, arriving in Southampton, and will offer a 12-day experience including visits to Cork and Dingle. The eclipse will be visible offshore near Glengarriff, Ireland.
- The Oceania Vista will feature two travel segments. The first, lasting 25 days, will begin on August 2nd in Southampton and visit destinations such as Kristiansand and Falmouth. The eclipse will be visible from the Belfast. The second segment, lasting 15 days, will depart from Belfast on August 12th and culminate in London, after visiting destinations such as Berlin and Copenhagen.
- Oceania Sirena, for its part, will offer a 12-day itinerary from Southampton to Barcelona, with stops along the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the observation of the eclipse as the ship sails away from Lisbon, Portugal.
With this diverse offering, Oceania Cruises reaffirms its commitment to exclusive travel experiences, combining the luxury of its smaller ships with a focus on authentic destinations, fine dining, and cultural and scientific offerings, making every trip an unforgettable event.
