The luxury expedition cruise ship Le Boréal, operated by the French shipping company Ponant, made its maiden call at the port of La Estaca on the island of El Hierro, marking a milestone in the development of cruise tourism on the island. The visit was celebrated with the traditional exchange of plaques, a maritime symbol of welcome between the ship's crew and the local port community.
During the official ceremony, Luz Marina Espiau, Head of Commercial and Business Development at the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, presented the commemorative plaque to the ship's captain and highlighted the commitment of the Ports of Tenerife to the promotion of sustainable and high value-added tourism, especially through the development of unique destinations with their own cultural identity.
The following day, Le Boréal also made its first stop in the port of San Sebastián de La Gomera, reinforcing the unique nature of its itinerary and the growing interest of boutique cruise lines in the Canary Islands. This inaugural double stop positions both islands as new benchmarks in the expedition and luxury cruise segment.
Le Boréal is currently running a 7-night cruise entitled “Canarias, Land of Contrasts”, carefully designed to showcase the diverse landscapes and culture of the archipelago, visiting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arrecife (Lanzarote), Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura), Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de La Palma, La Estaca (El Hierro) and San Sebastián de La Gomera.
This itinerary underlines Ponant's commitment to exploring unconventional destinations, offering its passengers unique and enriching experiences in territories that combine natural beauty with local authenticity.
These port calls are part of a broader operational strategy by Ponant. In recent months, five ships from its fleet have called at various ports in the Canary Islands, confirming the shipping company's strategic interest in the archipelago as an ideal destination for expedition and high-end cruises.
