Disney Cruise Line 's newest ship , the Disney Destiny, touched water for the first time at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Scheduled for delivery in late 2025, it made contact with the water for the first time in a float-out process that involved filling the dry dock with water from the Ems River, raising the ship from the bottom of the chamber.
Meyer Werft's teams will now begin testing various systems, including the main engines, the company said. The shipyard will also continue construction of the interior spaces of the Disney Destiny, which will feature a variety of attractions inspired by heroes and villains.
Inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel, the onboard experiences include a "Lion King" themed restaurant and a "The Incredibles" themed confectionery, in addition to themed staterooms and suites. Other highlights of the 140,000-ton vessel include a "Black Panther" themed Grand Lounge, a "Doctor Strange" themed entertainment lounge, and an Iron Man tower suite.
As the third in a series of ships that began with the Disney Wish in 2022, the Disney Destiny will offer cruises departing from Port Everglades. Sailing year-round from its homeport in Fort Lauderdale, the 2,500-passenger ship will offer a variety of four- and five-night cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas beginning in November 2025. Itineraries include visits to Disney Cruise Line’s two private island destinations: Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
In addition to the Wish and the Destiny, the series of ships also includes the Disney Treasure, which entered service at Port Canaveral in late 2024. As the second new ship to enter service for Disney Cruise Line in 2025, the Disney Adventure is also scheduled for delivery later that year. Currently under construction at the former MV Werften shipyard, the 6,000-passenger ship will mark the company's debut in Southeast Asia.
