Mitsui Cruises acquires a second luxury cruise ship from Seabourn. Currently operating as the Seabourn Sojourn, this 32,000-ton vessel with a capacity for 458 passengers will be managed by Mitsui Ocean Cruises at the end of 2026, once it completes its service with Seabourn.
MOL, the parent company of this Japanese cruise line with over 140 years of experience in the industry, has previously stated that it is positioning its cruise business as a new area for growth. The successful debut of the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI has allowed the company to accelerate its expansion ahead of the arrival of new ships built from the ground up. Launched in 2010, this ship is the "younger sibling" of the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, which was also acquired from Seabourn in March 2023.

While all new cruises require an adjustment period, the experience on the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI continues to improve steadily, and we are now fully confident that these two ships are the ideal vessels to expand our cruise business and offer ‘FUNATABI – Beautiful Encounters with Japan’ in a unique way that only MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES can provide.”
Before entering service, the new ship will undergo a major dry-dock refurbishment, be re-registered, and relaunched under the Japanese flag. It will offer a variety of short and domestic itineraries around the Sea of Japan, designed to provide guests with a comfortable and affordable experience. Like the NIPPON MARU and MITSUI OCEAN FUJI, this smaller ship will visit exciting ports, allowing passengers to immerse themselves in Japan's local culture and traditions without the crowds of larger vessels.
Details regarding the ship's new name, dry dock improvements, and itineraries will be announced soon. The previously announced itineraries for the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI and NIPPON MARU will not be affected by this acquisition.
