MSC Cruises ' new flagship , MSC World America , has successfully completed its intensive deep-water systems testing during a final sea trial in the Atlantic Ocean.
MSC World America will become MSC Cruises' 23rd ship and marks a new evolution within the company's successful World Class. This new ship features redesigned spaces and concepts, specially tailored to the American market, blending European style with the comfort characteristic of America. Furthermore, it will be the first ship in the fleet to feature seven onboard districts, each offering a unique and personalized experience. These districts, which include bars, restaurants, entertainment, and leisure areas, are designed to meet the needs and desires of all types of travelers.
The trials tested engine performance, maneuverability, fuel consumption, safety systems, speed, and braking distance. The ship will now undergo final touches at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France, before its official delivery to MSC Cruises on March 27.
MSC World America will be officially inaugurated on April 9 at MSC's new cruise terminal in PortMiami, the world's largest cruise terminal. Its maiden voyage will be a trip to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises' private island in the Bahamas, before beginning its Caribbean itinerary on April 12. It will alternate between 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with stops in Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Costa Maya and Cozumel (Mexico), Roatán Island (Honduras), and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
The ship will feature 18 bars and lounges and 19 restaurants, including four main restaurants, two buffets, two exclusive lounges in the MSC Yacht Club, and six specialty restaurants. Passengers can enjoy new culinary concepts, such as the Greek restaurant Paxos and the first Eataly at sea, as well as quick and casual options to suit a variety of tastes and preferences.
MSC World America will also feature two innovative lounge concepts: the All-Stars Sports Bar, which recreates an authentic game-day atmosphere with American food and bar games, and The Loft, a multipurpose space for comedy, karaoke and much more.
This imposing 22-deck ship, weighing 216,638 gross tons, is 333.3 meters long and 47 meters wide. It can accommodate up to 6,762 passengers and 2,138 crew members, has 2,614 cabins, and offers more than 38,400 square meters of public space.
Thanks to the use of LNG, this new flagship takes a step towards the use of renewable fuels, such as biofuels and synthetic fuels derived from LNG. It is also equipped with a shore power connection that allows the ship's engines to be shut down while in port, eliminating local emissions and improving air quality. The new MSC cruise terminal in Miami also features this technology. The ship is equipped with an advanced wastewater treatment plant and a comprehensive onboard recycling management system, minimizing waste.
MSC Cruises' current order book includes MSC World Asia, scheduled for delivery in 2026, and a fourth, as-yet-unnamed World Class ship scheduled for 2027.
