Last Saturday, August 3, at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, the Disney Treasure was launched and moved to the outside.
The Meyer Werft shipyard is well known for having a giant assembly hall that can fit more than one cruise ship, so the launching is a highly anticipated moment as it is the first time the ship leaves the hall and the public can see it for the first time.
A tugboat was in front, guiding the stern of the ship through the narrow door, which gave a margin of one meter on each side of the ship.
Now the Disney Treasure will receive the final touches inside with an eye on November, when it will be finished and have to sail up the Ems River to a more open area to begin its journey to Port Canaveral, Florida, where it will be based in 2024 and 2025.
Peter Pan and Captain Hook have been chosen to adorn the stern of the Disney Treasure. Before heading to Papenburg, Germany, the sculptures were constructed in California. To give an idea of the scale of these characters, Peter Pan stands over 2.7 meters tall. Both figures were carefully lifted by the shipyard team using cranes and securely bolted to the stern of the ship.
