The Mein Schiff 7 was christened on Saturday night in Kiel by its godmother Fenia Kalachani, who has been responsible for the environment on board the Mein Schiff fleet since 2020.
The event culminated in a drone and fireworks display, showcasing the ship against the backdrop of Kiel. Images of the event were projected from the Mein Schiff 7 into the night sky and were visible from afar, especially to visitors of Kiel Week and Mein Schiff 7 fans on the Kiellinie waterfront.
Shortly after sunset, Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, opened the official ceremony on the pool deck to mark the christening of the Mein Schiff 7. Guests enjoyed a performance directed by dancer and choreographer Chris Cross. 400 drones illuminated the sky.
“The christening of the Mein Schiff 7 is a very special celebration for TUI Cruises, the first since 2019, and a wonderful moment for the guests, the crew, and also for me personally,” said Wybcke Meier. Methanol-ready, the Mein Schiff 7 was built by Meyer Turku.
Around 2,500 guests, including many new passengers but also loyal to the Mein Schiff fleet, had booked the christening ceremony and the inaugural round-trip cruise to Kiel, which began the day before.
Summer in Northern Europe
Throughout the summer, the Mein Schiff 7 will make 8- to 17-day voyages between Kiel and Norway before the itinerary changes in mid-August to 8- to 10-day cruises on the Baltic Sea to and from Warnemünde.
In the winter of 2024/25, the youngest member of the fleet will spend most of the season in the Canary Islands, with cruises starting and ending in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
