The MSC Euribia, MSC Cruises' newest ship, celebrates its first year in operation in May.
Built by the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in France, this LNG-powered cruise ship was delivered to the company on May 31, 2024.
Before welcoming its first passengers, the MSC Euribia completed the industry's first net-zero greenhouse gas emissions cruise.
According to MSC Cruises, the four-day trip from Saint-Nazaire (France) to Copenhagen (Denmark) used bioLNG, saving 43 tons of fuel.
In addition, the 177,100-ton cruise ship achieved 11% higher performance than its digital twin, a virtual ship that simulated optimal energy flow and fuel usage on board.
These achievements are due to various optimization and energy efficiency measures, such as optimal speed profiles, routes, and motor configuration.
After the record-breaking voyage, the MSC Euribia was officially christened by Sophia Loren, godmother of the MSC Cruises fleet, in a special ceremony in the Danish port of Copenhagen.
At the inaugural event, in addition to the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle against the bow of the ship, there was live entertainment and speeches featuring celebrities such as French DJ Bob Sinclair and Danish model Sarah Grünewald.
Subsequently, the ship began its inaugural season with a series of seven-night cruises through the Norwegian fjords.
Departing from Copenhagen and Kiel (Germany), these itineraries included stops at several Norwegian ports, such as Geiranger, Alesund and Flaam.
After offering cruises around Western Europe and England during the winter of 2023-24, the MSC Euribia recently began its second summer program in the Norwegian fjords.
In November, the ship, which can accommodate 4,888 passengers, will leave Europe for the first time for a winter program in the Middle East.
Sailing from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, the ship will offer seven-night cruises to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain until early April 2025.
