Royal Caribbean International and the Bahamas marked the beginning of a new adventure with the start of construction on Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, the nearly seven-hectare beach day experience on Paradise Island in Nassau, the Bahamas.
Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty and Royal Caribbean International Chairman and CEO Michael Bayley joined Prime Minister Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister I. Chester Cooper of The Bahamas to commemorate the important milestone.
The first of the Royal Beach Club Collection will take shape in the coming months before its opening in 2025, and at the heart of the experience will be the island nation: The Bahamas.
From the location and cuisine to the Bahamian culture and staff, and a unique public-private partnership in which Bahamians will own up to 49% of the beach club's shares, the new paradise will combine the beauty and spirit of the Bahamas with signature Royal Caribbean touches in experience, service, and design.
“With the signing of this framework agreement for the development of Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, we are embarking on this project to further enhance the vibrancy of our tourism product. This agreement adds another world-class experience to our tourism offerings, and more importantly, takes a bold step toward further empowering The Bahamas in the tourism industry,” said Philip Davis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas
Travelers will be welcomed to their beach day at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, starting with the local architecture created by a Bahamian architecture firm and the views of the turquoise waters and white sand beaches.
The beach club will offer everything from three swimming pools with swim-up bars to private cabanas, four island-style spots to eat snacks and enjoy local food, and experiences with local artisans and live music.
“More than just the start of the construction process, this moment symbolizes collaboration, momentum, and continued economic development for so many Bahamian entrepreneurs and the entire community,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “We are very grateful to our partners for their support, especially the Government of The Bahamas, which is here with us today to celebrate what lies ahead.”
Local businesses and entrepreneurs will also manage part of the construction and experience, generating hundreds of jobs in the short and long term. To date, Bahamians have participated in workshops to develop authentic local cuisine, music, entertainment, sports, and activities, as well as design ideas that reflect the true Bahamian style.
“As we begin construction on the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, together with the government and community of The Bahamas, we are celebrating what partnership and innovation can achieve. This will be yet another reason, in Nassau’s bright future, to experience a destination we have visited since the beginning of Royal Caribbean more than 50 years ago,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.
“The beauty and charm of the island are the reasons we chose to debut Royal Beach Club Collection in Nassau, and with the collaboration and support of local businesses and the wider community, we know that what we create will far exceed anything we imagined.”
The construction plans, designed in collaboration with the government of the Bahamas, also include the restoration of the native habitat by Royal Caribbean, which will help protect the ecosystem during construction and in the future.
Royal Caribbean Group's vision for sustainability and its practices guide the overall development of the Royal Beach Club experience, as well as the Bahamas' environmental planning and protection process.
Once completed, Royal Beach Club Paradise Island is expected to accommodate an average of 2,000 guests. They will arrive via ferry from the Nassau cruise port and, on their return journey, will visit Nassau's historic downtown, near the Straw Market.
