The Port of A Coruña kicks off its peak cruise season in April, with 14 scheduled calls that month and a total of 58 ships expected throughout the second quarter of the year, from April to June. In addition to the 14 calls expected in April, 25 more are slated for May and another 19 for June.
The Arvia was the last cruise ship of the first quarter, having made 13 calls and carried just over 27,000 passengers. This same ship, one of P&O Cruises' latest additions, measuring 344 meters in length, will inaugurate the April schedule and will return to the city twice more during the month.
Other ocean liners scheduled to call at the port next month include some of the most frequent visitors, such as the Ventura, Aurora, Mein Schiff 3, Mein Schiff 4, Aida Perla, and Sky Princess, among others. In May, two ships will make their debut in A Coruña: the Nieuw Statendam on the 2nd and the Queen Anne on Sunday the 5th. Six days in May are marked by double calls in the city.
According to current forecasts, the port of A Coruña will receive more than 150 cruise ships in 2024, carrying over 360,000 passengers, thus surpassing its all-time passenger record for the third consecutive year. These figures will generate an economic return for the city of around €30 million, including direct spending by passengers and crew, as well as the impact on port companies, ship services, tourism businesses, transportation, and other sectors.
The president of the Port Authority, Martín Fernández Prado, highlights the benefits that cruise ships bring to the city's tourism and commercial sector, as well as to the international projection of A Coruña's image, and in this sense values the coordinated work promoted by the public body with all the agents of the sector.
Furthermore, in line with the sustainability strategy undertaken by the shipping companies, the Port Authority plans to install the electrical supply system for ships at the Transatlantic dock, so that they can turn off their auxiliary engines during their stops in the city.
