The construction phase of the Passenger Terminal's energy center is progressing well, according to Monic van der Heijden, commercial director of the Port of Amsterdam.
In collaboration with PowerCon and subcontractor BAM Infra, work is currently underway on the foundations, which are expected to be completed by the end of April.
Structural construction of the building will begin in May and is expected to be completed by mid-July. In June, shipping containers, which will house the shore-based electrical installation for cruise ships, will be installed inside the building.
Simultaneously, from April to September, the CPA will also be working on the cabling under the pier and under the walkways.
The onshore power installation, capable of connecting one ocean-going cruise ship and eight river cruise ships, is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
“The availability of onshore power, starting in 2025, is an important milestone in our ambition and strategy to accommodate zero-emission cruises,” concludes Dick de Graaff, CEO of CPA.
Furthermore, Amsterdam is one of Europe's top tourist destinations. Its canal network, historical monuments, and museums are world-renowned.
In 2010, the canal belt was included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Amsterdam Passenger Terminal is close to Schiphol International Airport, a ten-minute walk from the city centre and is perfect for arriving by car and public transport.
