Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld announced the appointment of Jonathan Daniels as the new executive director of the Maryland Department of Transportation's Port Authority.
Jonathan Daniels was selected by an executive search committee and a maritime executive search firm. He previously served as CEO and director of Port Everglades in Broward County, Florida, and brings over 30 years of experience in port and economic development. He will officially join the team on February 5.
“We are very pleased to have someone of Jonathan Daniels’ caliber join us in such an important role leading the Maryland Port Authority,” said Secretary Wiedefeld.
“Jonathan's extensive experience leading major U.S. ports and his unique background in economic development make him the perfect choice for the Port of Baltimore as we continue to move forward with significant projects that will grow the business and increase employment opportunities.”
At Port Everglades, Daniels spearheaded a plan to expand the container, energy, and cruise lines of business. Previously, he served as executive director and CEO of the Mississippi State Port Authority, where he oversaw an expansion and reconstruction project. He also worked for the Port of Oswego, New York, and the East Maine Development Corporation.
