The Viking Sky set sail yesterday from Port Everglades for a 137-night world cruise.
It is one of two world voyages that Viking Cruises is offering this year, including visits to a total of 57 destinations in different parts of the world.
The Viking Sky heads first south to Central America, before passing through the Panama Canal, up the west coast and across the Pacific via Hawaii to Australia and New Zealand.
Next are destinations in Asia and the Middle East, and the ship will also sail the Mediterranean before arriving in England. After more than four months, the world cruise will end in Greenwich on May 4, 2024.
In addition to popular destinations around the world, such as Cozumel (Mexico), Monte Carlo (Monaco) and Los Angeles (California), the itinerary also includes visits to lesser-known destinations, such as Semarang (Indonesia), Corinto (Nicaragua) and Thursday Island (Australia).
The cruise also includes overnight stays in 11 ports, including Sydney (Australia), Istanbul (Turkey), Auckland (New Zealand), Bali (Indonesia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Yangon (Myanmar), Singapore and Mumbai (India).
In a first for Viking Cruises, the Viking Sky will be one of two ships offering simultaneous world cruises this winter.
After departing from Port Everglades on December 23, the Viking Neptune will also offer a global voyage during the season. The company plans for both ships to offer the same itinerary concurrently.
The Viking Sky originally entered service in 2017, built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The 47,000-ton vessel is equipped with 465 cabins, all with private balconies.
According to Viking, the ship, with a capacity for 930 passengers, features a Scandinavian design in all its public areas and cabins, as well as light-filled spaces and gastronomic experiences, among other things.
