The SeaDream Yacht Club cruise line will modernize its entire fleet with electric connectivity on land, allowing it to reduce emissions in ports to zero.
The ability to connect to shore power allows yachts to turn off their engines and reduce emissions to zero in ports that offer shore power facilities.
“This is a significant milestone and an important step on our journey towards a more sustainable cruise,” said Andreas Brynestad of the SeaDream Yacht Club.
The SeaDream II successfully underwent an upgrade during a recent scheduled stay at the Naval Rocha shipyard in Lisbon. Its sister ship, the SeaDream I, will be modernized during its planned stay at the shipyard in April 2024.
With these improvements, SeaDream Yacht Club becomes the first luxury cruise line to equip its entire fleet with electric shore connectivity.

The recent upgrade to shore power supply capabilities is the latest step in a decades-long commitment to sustainability in luxury travel for SeaDream.
SeaDream's yacht itineraries are optimized for slower speed and lower fuel consumption, reducing emissions compared to traditional cruises.
SeaDream was the first luxury cruise line to ban the use of cheap, polluting heavy fuel oil (HFO). Since 2013, the company has powered its yachts with lighter, cleaner fuel, significantly reducing emissions.
Over a decade ago, SeaDream Yacht Club was the first cruise line to introduce a full plant-based menu. Offering the widest selection of plant-based options at sea, as well as sourcing more local produce and minimizing food waste, helps reduce its carbon footprint.
SeaDream Yacht Club also eliminated unnecessary single-use plastic across the entire fleet, replacing plastic items with more sustainable options or eliminating single-use items altogether.
