After being delivered by the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard earlier this month, the new Celebrity Ascent welcomed its first guests this week.
Celebrity Cruises' fourth Edge-class ship, with a capacity for 3,260 passengers, set sail from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale for a four-night cruise through the Western Caribbean.
In addition to two full days at sea, the itinerary includes a visit to Cozumel, Mexico.
Before officially beginning its inaugural season in early December, the Celebrity Ascent will also offer a three-night cruise to the Bahamas on November 26.
Following the christening ceremony, in which Captain Sandy Yawn and her sister Michelle Dunham will be the ship's co-godmothers, the Celebrity Ascent will embark on its maiden voyage on December 4.
A seven-night cruise, also departing from Fort Lauderdale, will tour the Eastern Caribbean and stop in St. Martin, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic.
During the winter of 2023-24, the Celebrity Ascent will offer more cruises through the Western and Eastern Caribbean.
The ship's week-long itineraries include several destinations in the region, such as George Town (Grand Cayman), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Basseterre (Saint Kitts), Nassau (Bahamas), etc.
After completing its winter program in mid-April, the ship will set sail for Europe for a winter season that includes itineraries in the Western Mediterranean, the Greek Islands and Turkey.
The Celebrity Ascent offers all the favorite features of the Edge series, such as the Theater, Rooftop Garden and Sunset Bar.
The 140,600-ton vessel also offers new experiences, including a redesigned Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud, a plant-based tasting menu at the Eden, an outdoor terrace at Blu, and much more.
Following the Ascent, the Celebrity Xcel will enter service in 2025. This ship, which completes the Edge class, is currently being built at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyards.
