Windstar Cruises is adding new winter and holiday itineraries from December 2023 to April 2024, offering travelers the chance to discover iconic ports such as Barcelona, Nice, Florence/Livorno, Marseille and Rome in a completely different light aboard the award-winning Star Legend, with 312 guests and all suites.
“The ship was originally scheduled to sail in the Middle East. We have postponed our launch in that region to begin in November 2024,” said Windstar Cruises President Christopher Prelog. “With a ship in the Mediterranean, we saw an opportunity to offer guests a legendary winter season in Europe. Our smaller ships and intimate atmosphere provide a truly unique way to explore Europe’s winter wonderlands while enjoying the magic of the season and the casual comfort and luxury for which Windstar is known.”
The Mediterranean offers a more tranquil charm during the winter months. These seven-night itineraries have been designed to allow guests to take advantage of less crowded areas and easier access to museums, cultural events, historical sites, local cuisine, and an authentic engagement with the locals.
Between December 2023 and April 2024, new week-long Mediterranean cruises will be offered. Sixteen cruises sail between Rome and Barcelona (or vice versa), visiting Florence and Pisa (Livorno), Italy; Marseille, France; and overnight stays in the iconic cities of Rome, Barcelona, and Monte Carlo.
The latest in the new Mediterranean series is an eight-night cruise from Rome to Athens, with visits to the Amalfi Coast and Greece. Christmas holidays can be booked on eight- or nine-day cruises, the latter including New Year's Eve.
Travelers will be able to participate in some of Europe, such as Christmas markets and ice skating in Nice, France; excursions to the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica and the Trevi Fountain in Rome during the holidays; and the Florence Festival of Light, among many other experiences.
Guests will also have several opportunities during the holidays, including the option of celebrating Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Rome; ringing in the New Year in Barcelona; spending Valentine's Day in Nice; or enjoying the Carnevale celebrations in both Spain and Italy at the end of February.
