The 2023 cruise season has begun in the Port of Leixões and in the first days of April, three ships visited the port for the first time.
On April 13, Lindblad's National Geographic Resolution made its inaugural stop in Leixões during its 5-day voyage from Lisbon to Bordeaux with approximately 120 passengers on board.
This itinerary also included visits to Vilagarcía de Arousa, A Coruña, Bilbao, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and San Sebastián de La Gomera.
The cruise ship, built in 2021, is the second vessel in the Lindblad-National Geographic “Ulstein X-Bow” series, designed to explore polar and temperate regions. Among other amenities, the ship boasts a dedicated expedition team, including an underwater specialist, a National Geographic photographer, a National Geographic certified photography instructor, and a videographer, ensuring passengers enjoy incredible experiences both onboard and ashore.
On April 20, the Porto Cruise Terminal welcomed the AIDAperla cruise ship with nearly 3,300 passengers. This family-friendly cruise offers onboard activities specifically designed for families with children. The AIDAperla arrived at the Porto Cruise Terminal as part of its 26-day voyage, themed "Holy Week," from La Romana in the Dominican Republic to Hamburg, Germany. The itinerary also includes several ports in the Caribbean, the Canary Islands, Funchal, Vigo, and Le Havre.
On the same day, our port welcomed the Hurtigruten expedition ship FRIDTJOF NANSEN, which was on a 12-day voyage from Lisbon to Hamburg with approximately 400 passengers on board. The MS Fridtjof Nansen is the world's second hybrid-powered cruise ship designed for polar expedition voyages. This class of cruise ship was specifically designed for Norwegian coastal cruises and polar expeditions (Arctic and Antarctic itineraries).
Nearly 140 cruise ship calls are announced for the port in 2023, including 16 new ships, which will bring approximately 180,000 passengers to Porto and the Northern Region of Portugal.
