The change in the presidency of the Port of Barcelona will not bring about major changes for the institution, but will be marked by a certain continuity.
Regarding cruise traffic in Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó is in favor of cruise tourism, considering cruises to be a strategic project for the country, so the objective will be to work to find a point of equilibrium with the Barcelona City Council.
For her part, the Catalan government's Climate Action Minister, Teresa Jordá, has announced that the government has already prepared the tax for cruise ships, which will come into effect in 2023 if the budgets are approved, taxing large ships that dock in the port areas of Catalonia.
Jordà maintains that cruise ship arrivals will not be restricted, a statement corroborated by Lluís Salvadó, who clarified that the port's economic activity will not be altered. Last year, the Port's revenue reached €151 million, 9% more than in 2020, but still far from the €172 million earned in 2019. Between January and September of this year, the port registered 1.6 million cruise passengers, 68.5% of the number it had during the same period in 2019, the last year before the pandemic, which ended with record figures.
Among other pending issues that Salvadó will encounter is also the fulfillment of commitments regarding road and rail access to the port, and regarding this issue, Salvadó has stated that rail connections are more urgent and a priority than ever.
