The Mediterranean is one of Norwegian Cruise Line's flagship regions, and for summer 2023, they are offering a variety of itineraries aboard five of their ships: Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Getaway, and Norwegian Jade. In addition, the newest cruise ship in their fleet, the Norwegian Viva, will join the fleet during the season. The second of six ships in their innovative Prima Class, Viva will offer Mediterranean itineraries before heading to the Caribbean for the winter season.
The Norwegian Breakaway offers cruises between June and August from 9 to 11 days with itineraries through the Greek Islands and Italy from Rome, visiting up to 10 ports: Rome, Santorini, Athens, Mykonos, Corfu, Valletta, Catania, Messina, Naples, Florence/Pisa (Livorno) and Cannes.
the Norwegian Epic will sail nine itineraries of between five and eleven days, visiting Italy, France, Spain, Greece, and Croatia. Departing from Rome, Venice (Trieste), and Barcelona, it will visit destinations such as Rome, Naples, Cagliari, Messina, Corfu, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Barcelona, Provence, Cannes, Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Kotor, Split, and Dubrovnik.
The Norwegian Gem will sail nine itineraries of between nine and thirteen days through the Greek Islands, departing from Venice or Athens and visiting destinations such as Venice, Bari, Catania, Naples, Koper, Hvar, Kotor, Zadar, Split, Rijeka, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos, Dubrovnik, Athens, and Zakynthos. It will also offer an eleven-day itinerary through Spain, Italy, and Portugal, visiting Rome, Cannes, Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Saint-Tropez, Barcelona, Ibiza, Motril, Seville, Lisbon, Porto, Gijón, and Bilbao.
The Norwegian Getaway offers up to 8 different 9 or 10-day itineraries; here are some of them:
- Italy, Greece and Croatia from Rome visiting Rome, Naples, Palermo, Syracuse, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Split, Rijeka and Venice.
- Italy, France and Spain from Lisbon or Rome visiting Granada, Cartagena, Seville, Ibiza, Palma, Barcelona, Provence, Cannes, Nice/Monaco, Florence/Pisa, Salerno, Naples and Rome.
- France, Spain and Portugal from Lisbon visiting Vigo, A Coruña, Bilbao, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Rotterdam, Brussels/Bruges, Paris and London.
- France, Spain and Belgium from London, visiting Rotterdam, Brussels/Bruges, Paris, Bordeaux, Bilbao, A Coruña, Vigo and Lisbon.
The Norwegian Jade offers 7 and 11 day itineraries through the Greek Islands, Israel and Cyprus, visiting destinations such as Kusadasi, Patmos, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Limassol, Santorini, Mykonos, Athens, Istanbul, Volos and Rhodes.
During the summer season of 2023, Norwegian Cruise Line will welcome the newest ship in the Prima class, the Norwegian Viva, with a gross tonnage of 142,500 and a capacity for 3,219 guests at double occupancy. The ship will feature the full range of recreational activities of the Prima class, in addition to exclusive and unique experiences, including the fastest dry-fall water slides at sea: The Rush and The Drop; and the largest three-level racetrack at sea with the Viva Speedway.
In addition, it will offer guests Ocean Boulevard, a 4,000-square-meter open-air space that wraps around the entire ship; the Indulge Food Hall, with 11 different restaurants; The Concourse , featuring an open-air sculpture garden; expansive infinity pools with Infinity Beach and the Oceanwalk, which boasts two glass bridges over the water. And an enhanced culinary scene with nine new dining and beverage venues, including a new Mediterranean seafood specialty restaurant, NCL's new contemporary sushi house, and The Belvedere Bar, a contemporary cocktail lounge offering handcrafted cocktails with a modern and fresh take on classic drinks, among others.
In response to environmental concerns and sustainability, the Norwegian Viva will feature cutting-edge alternative technologies, such as a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which reduces the ship's overall environmental impact. It will also be equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS), an advanced wastewater treatment and cleaning system, and shore power functionality to shut down engines and further reduce emissions while in port.
The new Norwegian Viva will sail next year to the most beautiful ports in Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Croatia.
ITINERARIES OF NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE'S NEWEST SHIP
Summer 2023: Mediterranean from Rome – Following a series of inaugural cruises and beginning in summer 2023, it will operate a series of 8, 9 and 10 day voyages from Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, offering guests the opportunity to explore destinations in Italy, France and Spain, as well as Greece and Croatia.
Winter 2023-2024: Southern Caribbean from San Juan – The NorwegianViva will head to the Caribbean for the winter, returning to its homeport of San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the largest new ship based there. It will depart San Juan on December 15 for a seven-day Caribbean voyage, with its first stop in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. It will then travel to Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; St. John's, Antigua; and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, as its final stop before returning to San Juan on December 22.
