Atlas Ocean Voyages has taken delivery of the new World Traveller, a 200-passenger ship that will be officially christened on November 20. The handover ceremony took place in Viana do Castelo on October 7, 2022, aboard the vessel at the West Sea shipyard.
From Portugal, the ship moves to Ushuaia, Argentina, where it will be based for expeditions to Antarctica.
Atlas Ocean Voyages' new World Traveller received a warm welcome at the port of Leixões (Portugal), where it was presented to tourism partners and international media.
“This ceremony and our acceptance of the delivery is just the first in a series of significant events in the coming weeks – including the official christening of the vessel in Chilean Patagonia,” said James Rodriguez, president and CEO of the line.
The World Traveller is the second ship in the Atlas Ocean Voyages fleet and joins its sister ship, the World Navigator. Both ships will be christened in a unique double christening ceremony at the Garibaldi Glacier in Chile. Atlas will present the ship to North American travel agents, dignitaries, and international media before it departs on its maiden voyage on November 21.
Following a series of expeditions to Antarctica, the World Traveller will travel to Europe via the Canary Islands for 7- to 10-day voyages showcasing the best of the Mediterranean. Ports of origin include Seville, Lisbon, Barcelona, Nice, and Civitavecchia.
Next August, three Arctic expeditions offer guests the chance to marvel at glaciers, fjords and mountains, and to observe a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, whales, polar bears, reindeer, walruses and the elusive Arctic fox.
From the land of the Midnight Sun, the World Traveller offers a circumnavigation of Iceland before charting a course south through the British Isles, Ireland, France and Spain to conclude its European season on October 16 in Lisbon.
