The Disney Wish cruise ship sets sail on its inaugural voyage

The Disney Wish enters service at Port Canaveral. After nearly a month of inaugural celebrations, Disney Cruise Line's newest ship welcomes its first paying guests. On its maiden voyage, the liquefied natural gas-powered vessel will depart on a five-night cruise to the Bahamas. In addition to Nassau, the itinerary includes a visit to Castaway Cay, Disney's private island.

The Disney Wish will sail its inaugural season of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, from its new home port of Port Canaveral, Florida.

Continuing its inaugural season, the Wish will offer additional short cruises departing from Port Canaveral. Taking the place of the Disney Dream, the 2,550-passenger ship will sail year-round with a program of three- and four-night cruises to Nassau and Castaway Cay.

The Wish, the first cruise ship built for Disney in ten years, arrived in North America on June 20. It is the first of a series of three new ships, built at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany.

According to Disney Cruise Line, the new ship offers several firsts, including an immersive journey through the Star Wars galaxy, as well as family-friendly dining adventures themed around Frozen and Marvel; original Broadway-style stage productions, fireworks at sea, kids' clubs for all ages, and an expanded collection of exclusive adult experiences.

From a technical standpoint, the Wish is one of the most energy-efficient ships on the water. Thanks to its LNG-powered engines and other technologies, it is estimated that the vessel will consume almost 30% less fuel and emit approximately 20% less greenhouse gases.
