Costa Cruises celebrates in the port of Barcelona the christening ceremony of the Costa Toscana, the new Italian-flagged ship in the Costa Cruises fleet, which allows you to discover "the art of living the sea".
The godmother of the Costa Toscana is Chanel, a young singer, actress, and dancer who achieved great success in Spain and throughout Europe after her performance at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest. She joined the ship's captain, Pietro Sinisi, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, during which a bottle was broken on the bow of the ship, according to maritime tradition. The event was hosted by two exceptional masters of ceremonies: Carlos Sobera and Flora González, two stars of Spanish television.
The Costa Toscana celebrations continued with a performance by Italian artist Andrea Casta, a globetrotting violinist who has performed all over the world with his electric violin and unique luminous bow.
The party then moved to the outer decks, specifically to the stern of the ship, on the terraces overlooking Piazza del Campo, where guests enjoyed the "Molecule Show": a spectacle featuring three hundred helium-filled spheres that lifted an acrobat on a trapeze, allowing her to soar through the Barcelona sky. Other Spanish celebrities, such as "El Sevilla," also attended the christening ceremony. Afterwards, the ship's voyage from Barcelona to Valencia was enlivened by Meduza, the world-famous Italian house music production trio, who performed an exclusive DJ set until dawn.
The aperitif and gala dinner were designed by Spanish chef Ángel León, known as the “chef of the sea”, who has been awarded 3 Michelin stars with his restaurant Aponiente.
The Costa Toscana marks the restart of the Costa Cruises fleet, which will operate 10 ships this summer. Summer 2022 looks set to see a significant rebound in travel.

The interiors of the Costa Toscana are the result of an extraordinary creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, designed to enhance and bring to life the colors and atmosphere of this magnificent Italian region in a single space. The furniture, lighting, fabrics, and accessories are all “Made in Italy,” created by 15 partners who are highly representative of Italian excellence. The onboard offerings are perfectly integrated into this extraordinary setting: from the Solemio Spa to the entertainment areas; from the themed bars, in collaboration with leading Italian and international brands, to the 21 restaurants and areas dedicated to the “gastronomic experience,” including the new Archipelago restaurant, which offers menus created for Costa by three renowned chefs, Bruno Barbieri, Hélène Darroze, and Ángel León, designed to explore the cruise destinations through taste as well. For the enjoyment of younger guests, there is the Splash AcquaPark, with its waterslide located on the top deck, a new dedicated video game area, and the Squok Club.
During the summer of 2022, the Costa Toscana offers a one-week itinerary with stops in Savona, Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Ibiza, Valencia, and Marseille. In the autumn season, Palma de Mallorca will replace Ibiza. The Costa Toscana allows its guests to discover the destinations included in the itinerary with an exceptional range of excursions, exploring the most authentic traditions, flavors, and colors.
