Norwegian Cruise Line has celebrated the completion of its return to operations with the departure of the Norwegian Spirit, the 17th and final ship in its fleet to return to service. NCL's return to service after a 500-day hiatus began with the departure of the Norwegian Jade on July 25, 2021, from Athens (Piraeus), Greece. Since then, the company has relaunched its ships worldwide, welcoming guests and crew members back aboard.
“This is an incredibly important day in our history and a pivotal moment for our future,” said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line. “We are moving forward at full speed, having already welcomed more than half a million guests for an exceptional vacation at sea.”.
The Norwegian Spirit will sail the South Pacific, visiting eight ports over 12 days, departing from the beautiful island of Tahiti. Highlights of the itinerary include a trip to Bora Bora; Raiatea, considered the most sacred island in the South Pacific; and Nawiliwili (Kaua'i), nicknamed "The Garden Island." This cruise departed Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia on Saturday, May 7, 2022, and disembarks on Thursday, May 19, 2022, in Honolulu, Oahu.
As part of the renovation, the Norwegian Spirit now features 14 new spaces, additional and updated staterooms, improved public areas, and new hull art.
