Carnival Corporation & plc has announced that Renata Ribeiro, currently senior vice president of strategic operations, will also assume responsibility for the company's global port and destination development operations, effective June 1, 2022.
Giora Israel, who has led global port and destination development for 14 years, will transition to a new role as senior advisor to the company. Israel, one of the most respected, influential, and innovative leaders in the cruise industry, will remain active, providing strategic policy and operational guidance to Ribeiro and the leadership team.
Over the years, Carnival Corporation has made significant investments in approximately 40 different port projects worldwide. Ribeiro assumes responsibility for managing strategic port and destination opportunities globally for Carnival Corporation and its nine world-leading brands, and will lead a team focused on building and maintaining strong partnerships with local ports, governments, businesses, and communities to help cultivate popular destination and itinerary options for cruise guests.
“Renata has the perfect combination of global operations experience and strategic management consulting experience, making her the ideal leader to further advance our involvement in ports and destinations, including many of the more than 700 ports around the world that we already visit,” said Josh Weinstein, Chief Operating Officer of Carnival Corporation.
Ribeiro will support David Candib, VP of Global Ports and Destinations Development; Michel Nestour, Vice President of EuroMed Ports Development; Marie McKenzie, VP, Global Ports & Carib Government Relations; and Gisella Mazzilli, Vice President of Finance and Accounting, Chief Financial Officer of the Global Ports and Destinations Group.
Giora Israel will move into his new role as senior advisor to the company, providing strategic policy and operational vision to management, as well as supporting Ribeiro when he assumes this new role.

Israel has contributed to the advancement of the cruise industry in all major regions of the world, leading key port and destination development projects that have led Carnival Corporation to become one of the world's most successful cruise port developers.
Ribeiro joined Carnival Cruise Line in 2008 as senior director of guest experience innovation. She serves on the board of directors of Ashtead Group plc, a British equipment rental company. She earned her MBA from Wake Forest University's Graduate School of Business, where she received the Luther Award for best international student. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Getulio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo, Brazil.
