AmaWaterways kicked off the 2022 Danube season with the opening of its new pier in the town of Vilshofen. AmaWaterways, the first river cruise line to call at this small Bavarian town in 2008, has cultivated a strong partnership with the local community over the past 14 years, hosting nine ship christenings and forging special relationships with the town's residents. With more than 200 calls planned this year, the luxury river cruise line is delighted to continue collaborating with the local community and celebrate the completion of this project.
“Supporting the local communities we visit has been very important to AmaWaterways since the company began nearly 20 years ago,” said Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and vice president of AmaWaterways. “It was an honor for us to celebrate the new pier with city dignitaries, as they have been an integral part of AmaWaterways’ story over the years.”.
The christening ceremony featured speeches from local dignitaries and AmaWaterways co-owners Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst, as well as local guests, who were welcomed with a festive show at the new pier.

With superior protection and a wider deck, capable of accommodating the innovative double-width AmaMagna, the new pier is ideal for hosting the festive Oktoberfest celebration that takes place on every AmaWaterways voyage, along with other festivals such as the “Danube in Flames” and the city’s enchanting Christmas markets, brimming with winter magic and festive traditions.
AmaWaterways has developed several Danube itineraries, all with overnight stops in Vilshofen, including Magna on the Danube, Romantic Danube, and Melodies of the Danube. In addition, Vilshofen has hosted nine christenings of new AmaWaterways ships, the first of which was AmaLyra in 2009.
