Princess Cruises' newest MedallionClass ship, the Discovery Princess, begins its maiden voyage to the Mexican Riviera.
Princess President John Padgett, along with officers from the Discovery Princess, welcomed the first guests aboard, Michael and Sally Smith, with a special ceremony. Hailing from Sacramento, California, the Smiths are frequent guests who have sailed with Princess for 10 years.
The Discovery Princess expands the cruise line's fleet to 15 ships, offering elegant accommodations, entertainment options, gourmet dining and cocktails, spacious outdoor dining areas, and expansive views from the company's largest balconies in the Sky Suites. The traditional christening ceremony will take place on April 29, 2022, at the Port of Los Angeles.
The Discovery Princess, with a capacity for 3,660 passengers, was built at the Fincantieri shipyards in Monfalcone, Italy, and is the sixth and final newly built ship of the Royal Class, which shares all the spectacular style and luxury of its sister ships: Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.
“Today we celebrate our newest ship, Discovery Princess, as it sets sail on its maiden voyage to the Mexican Riviera from the Port of Los Angeles – the same port from which our first cruise ship departed in 1965,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises. “Cruising is back, and the elegant Discovery Princess showcases the many reasons why travelers should cruise now.”
As part of the leading West Coast cruise line, Discovery Princess is now sailing a series of voyages along the Mexican Riviera and California Coast from March 27 to April 24, 2022. The ship will then head to the Pacific Coast to begin a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle, becoming the newest ship to sail the Alaska region.
