The Port of A Coruña today welcomed the first call of the modern cruise ship "Valiant Lady," from Virgin Voyages, owned by British magnate Richard Branson. This is the ship's first visit to a Spanish port, as it is currently on its inaugural voyage. To mark the occasion, a reception and exchange of plaques took place with the captain, hosted by the President of the Port Authority, Martín Fernández Prado, along with representatives from the shipping agent Incargo Galicia, Turismo de Galicia (Galician Tourism Board), and the State Security Forces.
Arriving from Portsmouth with 1,552 passengers and 1,161 crew members on board, the ship reached the Port of A Coruña around 8:00 a.m. and is scheduled to depart for Tenerife at 8:00 p.m. In addition to its modern facilities, it features an "adults only" concept, and the company has enlisted Jennifer Lopez as an advisor for onboard entertainment.
The President of the Port Authority highlighted his satisfaction that A Coruña is the ship's first Spanish port of call and took the opportunity to thank all the entities involved in the cruise ship port call process, from the Maritime Authority to the shipping agents, State Security Forces and Corps and the entire port community, for their effective work, which results in passenger satisfaction with the service and increased loyalty from the companies.
The ship's captain noted that today is a special day as it is their first visit to Spain, adding that the Virgin shipping company is exploring new routes for the coming months and they feel very welcome in the city, where they will make another stop on May 4th.
