The hospital ship Global Mercy has arrived at the Port of Granadilla, on the island of Tenerife. There, it will complete its outfitting as a hospital ship and depart for Senegal in mid-May. Mercy Ships once again thanks the Ports of Tenerife for their warm welcome.
The Global Mercy is the world's largest civilian hospital ship, featuring six operating theaters, 200 beds, a laboratory, outpatient clinics, and ophthalmology and dental offices. The total area of the hospital department is 7,000 m².
In Senegal, it will meet with the other Ships of Hope hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, which has been operating there since last February, after spending almost two years of the pandemic in Granadilla.
With its two ships operating at full capacity, Ships of Hope expects to perform more than 5,000 surgeries, more than 28,000 dental treatments, and train more than 2,800 medical professionals each year
