Construction of the Carnival Jubilee has begun with the traditional steel-cutting ceremony, coinciding with the company's 50th anniversary. The new ship will arrive in Galveston, Texas, in November 2023.
The steel-cutting ceremony, a maritime tradition, was celebrated by the builders of the Carnival Jubilee. At the shipyard's laser center, the ship's silhouette was cut from the steel and signed by all those in attendance. A special plaque was also cut from the same piece of steel to commemorate Carnival's 50th anniversary.
“It’s our birthday, and with today’s steel cutting for the Carnival Jubilee, this is a great way to honor the accomplishments of Carnival Cruise Line’s first 50 years,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
“This is the first ship that Meyer Werft has built for Carnival Cruise Line and the first time a ship design has been transferred from Meyer Turku to Meyer Werft,” said Jan Meyer, CEO of Meyer Werft.
The Carnival Jubilee will be a new addition to the cruise lineup departing from Galveston, which has established Carnival as the industry leader in the Texas cruise market. It will share many of the same exciting experiences already thrilling Mardi Gras guests, including BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea, and will also feature some unique design elements and signature locations of its own.
The Carnival Jubilee is a sister ship to the Mardi Gras, one of the most popular cruise ships, as well as to the Carnival Celebration, which will be based in Miami starting this year. The Excel-class ships are powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Carnival Corporation pioneered the introduction of LNG fuel to the passenger cruise industry as part of the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and emissions reduction.
The Carnival Jubilee will offer seven-day Western Caribbean cruise vacations from the port of Galveston starting November 18, 2023, with stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya (Mexico), as well as Mahogany Bay (Roatan Island) (Honduras).
