Norwegian Cruise Line, a cruise company with a 54-year history, has unveiled the Norwegian Viva, the next ship in its new Prima Class, offering guests more open spaces, a stunning, meticulously detailed design, and exceptional service. The Norwegian Viva will begin sailing the Mediterranean in June 2023, homeporting in key Southern European port cities, including Lisbon, Portugal; Venice (Trieste) and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy; and Athens (Piraeus), Greece. During the 2023-2024 winter season, it will sail the Southern Caribbean, offering warm-weather getaways from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Norwegian Viva, also built by Fincantieri in Marghera, Italy, will debut at 294 meters long, with a gross tonnage of 142,500, and will have the capacity to accommodate 3,219 guests at double occupancy. Travelers will experience every second of their journey in the most spacious accommodations, including interior staterooms, ocean-view cabins, and the largest balconies in the company's fleet.
The ship will offer the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any new cruise ship in the contemporary and premium cruise categories, as well as the widest variety of suite categories available at sea. It will also feature an enhanced Norwegian The Haven. The Haven and 107 suites, designed by Piero Lissoni, will include a spacious sundeck, a stunning infinity pool overlooking the ship's wake, and an open-air spa with a glass-walled sauna and a cold room.
The variety of recreational activities offered in the Prima Class will also be present on the Norwegian Viva with exclusive and unique experiences, including the fastest dry-fall water slides at sea: The Rush and The Drop. And also the largest three-level racetrack on the water with the Viva Speedway.
The Norwegian Viva will feature the Ocean Boulevard, a 4,000-square-meter open-air space that wraps around the entire ship; the Indulge Food Hall, with 11 different restaurants; The Concourse with an open-air sculpture garden; expansive infinity pools with the Infinity Beach and the Oceanwalk, which features two glass bridges over the water.

The Norwegian Viva will feature a striking piece of hull art designed by Italian graffiti artist Manuel Di Rita, known as “Peeta”, who also illustrated the exceptional hull on the Norwegian Prima.

The Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva will feature cutting-edge alternative technologies, such as a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which reduces the ship's overall environmental impact. SCR catalysts filter out up to 98% of sulfur oxides and up to 90% of nitrogen oxides, ensuring the ships meet Tier III NOx compliance. They will also be equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS), an advanced wastewater treatment and cleaning system, to meet stringent international standards, and cold ironing functionality to connect to shore power grids, further reducing emissions while in port.
ITINERARIES OF THE BRAND'S NEWEST SHIP
Summer 2023: Mediterranean from Rome, Athens and Lisbon – Following a series of inaugural cruises and beginning in June 2023, it will operate a series of eight, nine and ten day voyages from Lisbon, Portugal; Venice (Trieste) and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy; and Athens (Piraeus), Greece, offering guests the opportunity to explore the Spanish, Italian and Greek regions of the Mediterranean.
Winter 2023-2024: Southern Caribbean from San Juan – Norwegian Viva will become the largest new ship ever to be homeported in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It will depart San Juan on December 15 for a seven-day Caribbean voyage with its first stop in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. It will then head to Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; St. John's, Antigua; and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, as its final stop before returning to San Juan on December 22.
