Silversea Cruises has taken delivery of its newest ship, the Silver Dawn, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Executives from Silversea Cruises and Fincantieri attended an intimate handover ceremony last week to welcome the tenth ship to the company's fleet. Following a slideshow of the official coin and flag-changing ceremonies, Roberto Martinoli, Silversea's president and CEO, signed the papers to officially receive the Silver Dawn. Richard D. Fain, Royal Caribbean Group's president and CEO, and Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group's executive vice president and chief financial officer, joined the ceremony remotely to deliver remarks. Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri's Merchant Vessel Division, was also in attendance. The Silver Dawn is the third ship to join the Silversea fleet since the beginning of 2020 and is a testament to the strength and resilience of the global cruise industry.
“By welcoming the magnificent Silver Dawn as the tenth ship in our fleet, we have reached a major milestone in our mission to bring our guests into the world of luxury,” said Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea Cruises. “In addition to the tireless efforts of the Fincantieri and Silversea Cruises teams, I would like to acknowledge the significant contribution of the Royal Caribbean Group. The Silver Dawn represents an evolution of luxury cruise travel; it builds upon the innovations of its sister ships, the Silver Moon and the Silver Muse, with Otium, our pioneering new wellness program. With the Silver Dawn, we are reaffirming our position as a leader in ultra-luxury cruising. I look forward to welcoming our guests aboard starting in Spring 2022.”
Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri's Merchant Ship Division, stated: “Despite the pandemic, we have been able to keep all deliveries on schedule. That is why I am especially pleased to celebrate the delivery of the Silver Dawn just a few months after the successful delivery of its sister ship, the Silver Moon. We have been cooperating with Silversea for many years, building a line of distinctive vessels, and we are already looking ahead to the new challenges we face, ready for a new generation of cruise ships.”
The Silver Dawn, the third ship in the Muse-class series and the fourth resulting from Silversea's long-standing collaboration with Fincantieri, is a sister ship to Silver Muse , built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genoa) in April 2017, and Silver Moon, which was delivered in Ancona in October 2020. The Silver Dawn accommodates just 596 guests in 298 ocean-view suites, 96% of which have a private veranda, and has a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.45.
Building on the success of Silversea’s culinary program, SALT, which launched aboard Silver Moon, Silver Dawn introduces a groundbreaking new wellness program, Otium. Inspired by the relaxed nature of the Roman lifestyle, Otium will provide guests with a personalized, multidimensional wellness journey throughout Silver Dawn, beginning in Silversea’s most spacious suites at sea, expanding with a curated range of treatments in the redesigned spa, and flowing seamlessly into every moment of the cruise experience.
Steve McCurry turned his lens on a working shipyard. McCurry traveled to the Fincantieri facilities in Trieste to photograph the Silver Dawn, beginning on August 4, 2021. “I had never seen a ship in dry dock before, and I was fascinated to see the entire vessel resting and balancing on a series of blocks,” McCurry stated. “It was especially interesting to see the part of the ship that will be underwater. The workers were meticulous, as if they were working on a priceless work of art.”
