On August 13th, Gibraltar received its first cruise ship call since the start of the pandemic. The Wind Surf, from Windstar Cruises, arrived at 8 a.m. as planned on its Mediterranean cruise.
The Minister for Tourism, Vijay Daryanani MP, boarded and toured the ship accompanied by Captain Roman Krstanovic. Together they celebrated the traditional plaque exchange ceremony. Minister Daryanani said, “I am delighted to see the return of cruise ships to Gibraltar. I hope this is the first of many visits to our Rock. The international cruise industry has suffered immensely over the past 18 months, and our merchants have missed their port calls tremendously. The Government is committed to increasing cruise ship calls at our port. During the pandemic, we have been in constant communication with all cruise operators, but I want to take this a step further by meeting with them personally when I am able to travel. The major cruise lines are already working on their 2023 and 2024 routes, and Gibraltar must be at the forefront of their plans.”.
