Cruise ship activity returns to Valencia. The Mein Schiff 2, operated by TUI Cruises, will call at the port on June 27
Valenciaport has received the award for best social media strategy granted by the Mediterranean Cruise Ports Association (MedCruise), an award that recognizes the work carried out in 2020 by the port community of Valencia during the COVID-19 pandemic and the support for the cruise sector in a complicated year for this industry.
The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Aurelio Martínez, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Port of Valencia and its port community for “this award granted by MedCruise, which highlights the value of conveying and explaining to people the importance of ports and cruises for communication between countries and cultures. This recognition motivates us to continue on this path.”.
The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) also highlighted the outstanding work carried out by the two finalist institutions, Galataport Istanbul in Turkey and the Port Network Authority of Southern Adriatic in Italy, as well as MedCruise's commitment and its crucial role in promoting and supporting the cruise community. This is the third edition of these awards organized by this Association, which brings together and represents cruise ports that handle more than 20% of global traffic. MedCruise emphasized the "excellent" work done during 2020 by the Valencia port community through various social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube) as a public service to inform citizens, businesses, and institutions about its activities in a year marked by the health emergency, focusing on engaging, visual, and human-centered content.
Return of Activity:
The cruise sector has received the green light to resume operations in Spanish ports. After more than a year of inactivity, the Port of Valencia will welcome the Mein Schiff 2 from TUI Cruises, a peninsular itinerary cruise that will call on June 27th under very thorough safety protocols. The reopening of the cruise sector was eagerly awaited by everyone involved in this activity: companies, commerce, hospitality, tour guides, transportation, cultural services, and food services, among others. The 15 months of inactivity in cruise tourism in Valencia have meant that the city and its surrounding area have lost approximately 70 million euros (initial outlay plus revenue in the city's economic sectors), according to a study prepared by the Valenciaport Foundation in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
During this time, the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), the cruise community, the Valencian Ministry of Health, Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, and València Turisme have worked to guarantee the safety of cruise passengers, port workers, and the Valencia destination at all times. This safe tourism, in addition to the stringent measures adopted by the cruise lines, will offer a diverse range of tourist activities within the city and its surroundings, with "bubble" groups. These protocols establish exclusively guided excursions, with no possibility for passengers to disembark independently, smaller groups, and more outdoor experiences, among other measures.
