The Councillor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, participated this Thursday in the 13th edition of Recognition Night. This annual event, promoted by the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB) as part of its Ambassador Program, recognizes all those individuals who, through their work, promote the image of the capital in the conference sector.
The tribute took place in the Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens with a new format and in accordance with all the health and safety protocols recommended by the authorities, such as reduced capacity and the use of face masks, among others. This new edition, which usually takes place around July, demonstrates that Madrid is a destination capable of organizing safe events, instilling confidence in the capital's potential influencers.
In this edition, recognition has been given to Virginia López Valiente, general manager of Cruises News Media Group, for the celebration of the tenth edition of the International Cruise Summit, a congress that in all its editions has opted for Madrid and that took place on December 1 and 2 at the Meliá Castilla hotel in a hybrid format.
“I couldn't be more honored to receive this recognition from my city, but doubly so because presenting a cruise event in Madrid has always been a challenge, and the Madrid Convention Bureau understood that from the very beginning. This year has been tough in every way, from planning amidst uncertainty and forging ahead with a hybrid event, to the necessary technological deployment, but the cruise sector, one of the hardest hit and least understood in this global crisis, needed this visibility and this effort.”
Madrid has awarded the MICE sector for its resilience and solidarity shown during the pandemic and the health sector for its dedication and the fundamental role it has played and continues to play in protecting the health and lives of all.
The Ambassador Program, promoted by the Madrid City Council's Tourism Department through the Madrid Convention Bureau, aims to support those responsible for organizing conferences in Madrid. This collaboration begins well before the event and continues until after its conclusion, incorporating new perspectives such as sustainability and generating a positive impact.
The International Cruise Summit continues to garner praise after its latest edition, held in a hybrid format at the Melia Castilla hotel auditorium, which brought together cruise industry professionals from around the world and the CEOs and presidents of the world's leading cruise companies.
