CLIA, the global association of the cruise industry, announced the appointment of Ukko Metsola as Managing Director of CLIA Europe.
From September 1, Ukko will lead CLIA's presence in Europe, while Tom Boardley will begin his planned retirement from the role of Secretary General. Ukko will serve as Director General during a critical transition phase as the cruise industry gradually resumes operations.
Ukko Metsola joins CLIA after serving as Vice President of Government Relations for Europe and Asia-Pacific at Royal Caribbean Group since 2016. During his previous political career, Ukko held senior positions in the Finnish parliament and in the Finnish Prime Minister's office. He is a graduate of the University of Helsinki and the Harvard Kennedy School, where he studied on a Fulbright scholarship.
