This weekend, the Spirit of Adventure, Saga Cruises' newest ship, made the journey up the Ems River from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg to Emden, on the German coast, where it will begin sea trials.

The Spirit of Adventure, weighing 58,250 tons and with a capacity for 999 passengers in double occupancy, is a sister ship to the Spirit of Discovery, launched in 2019. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for November 5, 2020, a round trip from Southampton after 17 days in the Mediterranean, with stops in Barcelona, Malaga, Gibraltar, Monte Carlo, Toulon, Civitavecchia, and Naples. This will be followed by a season of cruises of at least 14 nights based in Southampton, visiting the Canary Islands, Funchal, and Lisbon.
Having divested itself of the Saga Pearl II and the Saga Sapphire, the company will now operate with these two new ocean-going ships, although the Spirit of the Rhine, a new river cruise ship on the Rhine, is also under construction and is expected to debut in 2021.
