Hurtigruten, a leading Norwegian shipping company specializing in exploration trips, launches its new program called Expedition Norway, where travelers have the opportunity to explore Norway during the 2021/2022 season.
The company, in addition to sailing the Norwegian coast for 127 years with its classic routes, the Classic Route (Bergen-Kirkenes-Bergen), Northbound (Bergen-Kirkenes) and Southbound (Kirkenes-Bergen), can now also explore Norway and discover a total of 9 different destinations, gems located along the Norwegian coast that will become dream ports when exploring the destination.
The main attractions are the Lofoten Islands with their picturesque red and white cottages; the rugged Vesterålen and its striking contrasts; Senja , also known as "Norway in miniature" for showcasing the country's key features; the Lygen Alps, where you can fall in love with the beautiful 82-kilometer-long Lyngenfjord; Træna with its more than 1,000 islands, reefs, and islets, offering extensive hiking trails and spectacular views; Alta, a perfect adventure destination and a prime location for studying the Northern Lights since the 19th century; Fjærland, where you can admire idyllic glaciers, mountains, fjords, and farmland; and Narvik, one of the world's northernmost cities, offering an urban feel on the edge of Arctic wilderness.
This new program offers longer stays in port, allowing guests to explore and experience every detail of Norway, spending at least half a day to a full day in each port, and thus having the opportunity to explore the fjords and scenic areas carefully selected by experts.
Thus, Expedition Norway offers three different itineraries and a total duration of 12 days, with Bergen as the starting and ending point, aboard the MS Trollfjord:
Arctic Winter and Northern Lights Expedition. This itinerary comes with Hurtigruten's Northern Light Promise*, making it the perfect trip for anyone who loves nature's greatest light show: the Northern Lights.
Departure dates: January 11 and 22; February 2, 13 and 24; October 2, 13, 24; November 4, 15, 26; December 7, 18, 29; January 9, 20, 31 and February 11, 2022.
*Because the natural phenomenon “Aurora Borealis” is one of Hurtigruten's main attractions, the company offers a guarantee seal that gives guests a free Northbound or Southbound trip if viewing is not possible due to weather conditions, between October 1st and March 31st, 2022.
White Winter Expedition. On this itinerary, the traveler witnesses two of Norway's most beautiful moments: enjoying the white Arctic snow and the brilliance of the Northern Lights in winter, and experiencing the Arctic Awakening in spring.
Departure dates: March 7, 18, 29 and April 9 and 20.
Norway Fjords and Midnight Sun Expedition. This itinerary is the perfect trip for lovers of spring and summer, endless days thanks to the Midnight Sun, colorful landscapes and clear skies, and the beautiful Norwegian fjords.
Departure dates: May 1, 12, 23; June 3, 14, 25; July 6, 17, 28; August 8, 19, 30; and September 10 and 21.
Furthermore, as with all Hurtigruten expedition cruises, the ships are led by the Expedition Team, an adventurous group of experts in various fields, including science, marine biology, Arctic survival, oceanography, and photography, among others, who help travelers discover the best of each destination. Each day offers a new onshore activity and a wide range of optional excursions such as hiking, kayaking, and birdwatching.
